Dr. Fei Deng Presented on Defining Relevant Markets and Establishing Market Dominance


Dr. Fei Deng, a partner at Edgeworth, was invited by Tsinghua University Law School to present at a closed-door Workshop on Abuse of Dominance, Private Damages Claims and Agency Investigations in Internet and High-tech Industries, held in Beijing, China on August 31. Antitrust litigation and enforcement in internet and high-tech industries have been hot topics in China, and there are several on-going litigation matters in this area.

Dr. Deng spoke on use of the SSNIP test in defining relevant markets in internet and high-tech industries and economic analyses used in evaluating dominance, and served as a panelist in the module on the use of expert witnesses. Other speakers at the workshop included judges from the Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court, officials from the three Chinese antitrust regulatory  agencies (the Department of Price Supervision of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Anti-Monopoly and Anti-Unfair Competition Enforcement Bureau under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), and the Anti-Monopoly Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM)), and seasoned law practitioners in China.
