Drs. Deng and Leonard Presented at the ABA China—Inside and Out Conference
Drs. Fei Deng and Gregory Leonard served as panelists in the “hot topics” session at the ABA Section of International Law conference “China—Inside and Out,” held in Beijing, China on September 16-17.
Antitrust, intellectual property, and other regulatory issues faced by firms initiating and operating outbound and inbound investments in China was the theme of the conference, and the “hot topics” session focused on current issues in the front lines of antitrust law and enforcement in China. Dr. Leonard spoke on the issue of Industry antitrust exemptions and immunities, including the circumstances under which exemptions or immunities should be granted and the conditions that should be placed on any such grant. Dr. Deng spoke regarding abuse of dominance, a hot topic in the wake of the decisions in two recent cases (Qihoo v. Tencent and Huawei v. InterDigital). She discussed the characteristics of two-sided markets in the Information and Communications sector (ICT) and economic analyses that can be used to define relevant markets and determine market dominance in this sector, issues relates to standard essential patents in the antitrust context, and economic analyses used in determining damages in antitrust and IP litigation.
