Project Spotlight: School Discipline and Girls in Communities of Color

01.06.2022

Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice and pro bono partner Edgeworth Economics have teamed up to expand on the Appleseed Network’s prior study on school discipline of girls across racial groups in Kansas, Alabama, and Massachusetts. This new collaborative effort will dive into district-level data across the state of Massachusetts to further examine intersectional disparities related to school discipline. MA Appleseed’s Melanie Rush and Edgeworth team members, Stephanie D. ChengSheila Buenafe, and Catia Twal, will use rigorous analysis to study state-wide district-level data and to identify patterns or trends concerning the use of school discipline on female students of color, providing the quantitative foundation for MA Appleseed’s community-led study into this issue.
